Launch of the Strategic Plan
December 2, 2013
On July 1, 2013, Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences (RBHS) became the health care education, research, and clinical division of Rutgers University. RBHS is comprised of most of the units of the former University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, several existing Rutgers units with key health-related missions, and two research units that historically were jointly operated by Rutgers and UMDNJ.
RBHS aspires to be recognized as one of the best academic health centers in the country in terms of teaching, research, and clinical care. On December 2, 2013, I will launch a strategic planning process for RBHS to develop this pathway to achieve success. To become a national leader, we must ascend to a new level of excellence and integration across all our professions, schools, and units.
The RBHS strategic plan will provide vital links between the universitywide strategic plan and the targeted initiatives developed at our schools and units. The specifics of the plan will be developed by the faculty, staff, and students of RBHS with input and participation from our colleagues across Rutgers. We will engage in a multilevel process that will highlight our current areas of excellence, suggest programs and disciplines for increased investment, identify opportunities for growth, and illuminate potential synergies across the enterprise. The planning process will begin on December 2 at two town hall meetings, in Newark and Piscataway and continue through the spring of 2014. Following the launch, we will convene a steering committee, circulate survey instruments to collect data, form issue-specific working groups, and compile our findings into a comprehensive plan with distinct and tangible metrics to quantify our progress.
To begin to collect your comments and feedback on the strategic plan, we have established an email address: email@example.com. Your participation is vital to our success; updates and new materials will be regularly added to this site, so please check back frequently.
I look forward to engaging with you over the next several months as we develop our blueprint for the future of RBHS and the clinical, biomedical, and health sciences at Rutgers University.
